Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison can read. Each week participants are given a prompt. This week's is:
Q: What is the longest book you’ve read? What are your favorite 600+ page reads?
The longest book I've ever read was The Lord of the Rings, which I read when I was 13. My copy was around the 1,400 page mark and it took me two weeks to read it.
I'm trying to think of other books that I've read that are over the 600 page mark and I'm having trouble coming up with titles! I have of course read my fair share of long classics (David Copperfield, Swann's Way, The Red and the Black,...). There are the last few Harry Potter books, which I loved but not enough to get me to read the last one (though I think that's more to do with not wanting to come to the end of an era). And then there's A Game of Thrones, which I've almost finished now and have vastly enjoyed!
I suppose I could include the Oxford-Hachette English-French dictionary here as, though I haven't read it from cover to cover, I've used it so extensively that it wouldn't surprise me if I'd looked at every page at some point or another. It's a very good dictionary and helped me a lot with my translation work!
Have a great weekend and happy hopping!

Never read that one! But I have a feeling I'll be seeing a lot of that today!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Friday Hops
Have a GREAT weekend!

I have to read The Game of Thrones series soon! I haven't watched the series either so I am a complete virgin! I loved the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (and the films!) Can't wait to see The Hobbit next year:)
ReplyDeleteThe Game of Thrones series is really good! I highly recommend it. I'm also really looking forward to The Hobbit next year! ^^
DeleteI read the Lord of The Rings as individual books. Thanks for stopping by, following back.
ReplyDeleteI tried reading that one, but it's just not my type of book. Oh, well.
ReplyDeleteNice choices :)

I haven't read this one, when I saw how big it was lol. So difficult to remerver our big books!
ReplyDeleteIt really is! I remember so many of the shorter ones, it's funny that I don't remember the long ones.
DeleteI never made it through Lord of the Rings, I've tried a couple times and just couldn't finish. Maybe some day I will read them all. You can see my FF here
ReplyDeleteNew follower. Happy reading :)
Some people find LotR hard. Looking back, I have no idea how I managed to get through it all!
DeleteI was unable to get through this book. new follower. my ff http://jennreneeread.blogspot.com/2012/03/follow-friday-10.html
ReplyDeletePopping over to say Hello back my great friend rea :D
ReplyDeleteI haven't read the book. Naturally I've seen the movies but it's never quite the same thing, is it? Thanks for stopping by my blog. Looks like I'm already a follower of your according to GFC. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThey had to cut out a lot of the interesting bits to keep the movies of a relatively decent length. The books are worth reading at least once just for the sheer genius that is Tolkien's world building.
DeleteI don't remember my copy being that long BUT I did read it in high school and I felt like it was really slow. Someday I might try it again as an adult.
ReplyDeleteOld follower!
My follow Friday
Hopping through. What is Swann's Black about? i should try reading LOTR. I need to read the last book still.
ReplyDeleteMy Hop
Swann's Way is the first book in Marcel Proust's epic about how memory works. Put together, the books tell the story of how the young narrator got to the point where he was ready to write his own book (and when you get to the end of book 7 you realise what you've just read is the narrator's book and you could start again).
DeleteThe Red and the Black is the story of a young man caught up between the army and the Church, his journey through life, and how love becomes all consuming for him.
Both are French classics. They're both good but are very much long and tiring in the way that a lot of classics are (for me, at least).
I completely forgot about Lord Of The Rings! :O
ReplyDeleteHaha, yeah you could include the dictionary :)
Thanks for following :)
Following you back! :D
Hey thankss for stopping by :)
ReplyDeleteNew follower too!
Ohh I really need to read LoTR but I've been too intimidated hahaha!
Awesome answer though :D
How can you have not read the last Harry Potter book?! Is it not killing you to read it!? I understand the sadness of it ending- I felt so heavy-hearted when I got to the last page, but I just HAD to read it. Do you think you will ever read it?
ReplyDeleteI wish I had the perseverance to get through LOTR...I read about a chapter and did enjoy it but then thought...'ahh so much left I'm gonna go watch the films' and I never went back to it!
Love the blog- I will definitely be visiting again! x
LoTR was difficult to get into but I enjoyed it once I got used to the language.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by.
Yay, I put LOTR too! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Returning the love!
